Aid & Attendance
Aid and Attendance (A&A) is an additional monthly benefit for veterans who are 100% and who require more assistance than what is covered by a 100% disability rating. Even if you’re already receiving full benefits, A&A can offer extra financial support for essential care needs.
**Eligibility Criteria for A&A**
- **Service Requirements:** Veterans must have served at least 90 consecutive days of active duty, including one day during wartime. Combat service is not required.
- **Health and Clinical Needs:** Veterans must need help with daily activities, such as bathing or dressing, due to conditions like being bedridden or residing in a nursing home.
- **Financial Considerations:** The VA sets income and asset limits, updated annually, to ensure benefits are allocated to those in genuine need.
**Common Misunderstandings**
There is a misconception that A&A requires round-the-clock care. In fact, regular assistance with daily activities is sufficient if the veteran cannot perform these tasks independently.
**Caretaker Eligibility**
Caretakers can include spouses, children, relatives, friends, or professional caregivers, provided they offer the necessary regular assistance. Supporting documents, such as medical records or a caregiver’s statement, can enhance your application.
